Girls suspended for ‘memory shirts’

Ten Wichita Falls High School girls were suspended Friday when they wore T-shirts to school that honored the memory of a friend who died early Sunday morning of injuries he suffered in a hit-and-run accident.

"They’re divisive, cause rifts and are a distraction to the instructional day," said Renae Murphy, public information officer for the Wichita Falls Independent School District.

Is this really the kind of message we should be sending to a generation of teens raised in a society that’s already too lacking in empathy for our fellow man/woman?
