Not Much Happen’n

Sorry it’s been so long.  Been super busy.

Still running twice a day and bought a home gym so working out now too.  Will definitely exceed the 2 month goal of 38 - 28 - 36. The addictive side of my personality reared it’s head, but at least it’s a healthy addiction.

Wish I had more to post about - was planning a trip tot he ROT Biker Rally in Austin but that’s up in the air at the moment. …still hoping though.

It’s a Girl!

My oldest step-daughter had our 2nd grand-baby yesterday! It’s her first.
Ella Grace. 7lbs, 10 oz;  21 1/2 inches long.

at the Playground

little boy: “When’s daddy get here?”

mom: “When he gets off work.”

little boy: “Where’s your daddy?”

Hannah: “At the cemetery.”

yeh - stopped me in my tracks.

Fruit Flavored Meth

The DEA creates propaganda and people like this embellish it.

Did the squawk box skip this sentence -

While it is not clear flavorings have been added for the express purpose of making the drug appeal to children (it seems more likely they were incorporated as a way of combating the substance’s bitter taste), it is expected that “candied” versions of meth will nonetheless have that effect.

I think people like the squawk box think they’re doing a great public service by “warning” others. The reality is this kind of fear mongering leads to bad legislation which leads to increased incarceration of non-violent offenders, and space to house them is made by releasing violent offenders. In the end it makes children less safe.

More Propaganda

First and most importantly, the “dealer hanging around the playground targeting children” is pretty much total BS.

In 10 yrs I never encountered a dealer or user who would sale to children, much less target children as a customer base. Truth is, from the high end suppliers down to the lowest street junkies, I never encountered anyone who “pushed” drugs on anyone, much less went around trying to turn children into addicts.

I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, simply saying in 10 yrs (that’s a long time) - I never once encountered it.

Children aren’t targeted for several reasons, but the biggest is economics. Dealers deal for the same reason you work - to make money. Tell me - how many grade schoolers do you know who’s allowance is big enough to fund a $50 - $200+ per day addiction?

Pretty Colors

Why make it in pretty colors if not to target children?

“Brand recognition and loyalty” - associating color and quality with a specific dealer.

Scent and Flavor

The slightest change in temperature, timing, humidity during the manufacturing process will destroy potency. You can’t throw a few flavor crystals into the mix and voila’ - strawberry flavored meth.

The taste of meth is impossible to describe, but imagine if you will…how much kool-aid would be required to ‘flavorize’ a gallon of paint thinner?

“According to intelligence gathered by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents from informants, users, local police, and drug counselors, flavored meth is available…”

The claim of flavored methamphetamine  likely began with the arrest of a single suspect carrying a pre-scented plastic baggie containing meth.

Maybe I should write a series dispelling drug war propaganda.

Double-time

Thanks to the rain nixing my early run today, we’re fixing to find out if I can do 5 miles in one go.

wish me luck. and oxygen.

Bike Browsing

Went along with a friend to the Harley shop yesterday. While he shopped for bike stuff I browsed (drooled over) bikes. I sat on a Sportster, a Softail, and the ultimate, to die for

V-Rod.

Right now I’m leaning towards the Softail Springer Classic.

It’s way early in the game though so I’ll probably change my mind a dozen times.

I’m (flexes muscles) proud and a little surprised to report I was strong enough to pull and hold all 3 bikes to an upright position. What I didn’t expect was that actually holding one up and sitting on it would change the hell out of my perspective. Huge difference between having that much power between your legs vs. being surrounded by steel or whatever they make vehicles out of these days. Didn’t scare me away from wanting one, but I do have a new respect for bikes as a whole - which is a good thing.

other stuff — the exercise thing is going great. I’m sticking to 2 runs a day and very low daily calorie intake. Feeling physically and mentally better every day. :)

Anthems

a certain situation I’m dealing with right now.
Exactly how I feel and what I’d like to say.

38 - 28 - 36

That was me 2 summers ago.

That will be me 2 months from now. Not much room to slack but it’s realistic and do-able. Hard kicking myself for not sticking with my running last year.  One good thing came of it - I now know how much I hate starting over from where I was when I started running last year. Bet your ass I’ll stick with the program this time.

got 3 miles in today. My knee hurts, muscles are sore - but damn it hurts so good. Tomorrow I start 2 miles every morning and 2 more miles every evening.

Other goal this summer…

I want a motorcycle, specifically, - a Harley. Don’t ask what kind because I don’t have a clue, gotta learn to drive one first. :)~  The local tech college offers a 3 day Motorcycle Safety Foundation Course (cost $180). 1 day of book work, 2 - 8 hr days of actually learning to ride. And they furnish the bikes.

Am I having that mid-life crisis thing?

Simple to Complicated in 1.2 seconds

an example of how something as simple as a schedule conflict can quickly become unbelievably complicated because of probation.

I last reported to probation 2 months ago. My PO (probation officer) and I had good reason to believe I would be released from probation before my next appt. But- until the official release I had to remain in the appt roll. We penciled a time on the books with the understanding it was more of a paper trail thing and in the event my release didn’t happen - the time could be easily changed according to my schedule.

The release still hasn’t happened. It’s now time to report in again and I have a scheduling conflict. Shouldn’t be a big deal right?

Here’s where it gets complicated…

The local PO has been changed yet again. This appt is the first with the new PO, who knows zilch about any of the above.

Obviously your first interaction will set the tone of your future relationship. It’s never a good idea to reschedule the first meeting with a new PO because it’s usually assumed that you’re playing games or dodging them.

To avoid starting on the wrong foot, I have to page the previous PO (he’s not in his office this morning of course), wait by the phone for him to return my call, update him on the status of the release that hasn’t come through, ask him to call the new PO and explain all of the above so that I may reschedule without causing a rift, then call the new PO to reschedule.

Something so minor turned into one major pain in the ass hassle.

fucking ridiculous.

panic buttons

Regardless of how sure you are it’s the right thing to do, still have to get through the end-panic, when the realization of ‘it can’t be undone’ sets in.

I’ve lost count of how many times I haven’t seen this one through.
